"TheElephant" (426cubicinches)

So I got bored on the road trip and figured I would try to see what, exactly, the car is capable of (on a closed course, obviously).
I took some GoPro videos, but the settings were wrong and it was dark out. So I basically took some GoPro audio. Which is still cool, I guess?
Anyway, here's the relevant statistics:
0-100 in about 10 seconds
30-110 in about 10 seconds (3rd gear start)
20-110 in about 10 seconds (2nd gear start)
80-140 in about 10 seconds (3rd gear start)
And, just for the shits and giggles of it, I did a 0-60 run with shifts at 2,500 RPM (maybe 1/3 throttle?). The result? 8.4 seconds.
Fuckin' torque, man.
Fuckin' torque.

So, what exactly were you driving that did 0-100mph in 10 seconds?

That would make more sense, but he does reference a 0-60 run later.
Also, would you start in second gear from 20kmh? I'd think if you were going 12mph, you'd still be in first.
It's totally possible to do 0-100 in 10 seconds, but that's one fast street car, low-11s or so depending on launch.

I can't race for shit. Fastest I have gotten it down the strip is a smidge over 12.6.
One of my buddy's can do it in 11.8 @ 121, though.
It is, indeed, quite a car.

I dunno, it's possible that he meant 0-60 km/h but getting to 37 mph in 8.3 seconds would be terrible. Seeing his reply to you it's not surprising with the 426...

I thought "426" before even clicking the link. That's fuckin' badass.
I assume it's a Gen III Hemi, or is it an O.G. Gen II? And I assume it's a NAG1 transmission, or did they make a torqueflite with 5 speeds?

I can drop my rear headrests in like... one second. With the dash switch. I can also hit my headlight wipers. I can probably get my sunroof open in ten-ish seconds if it's not sticking too much.

Gen III - built and tuned by Arrington.
NAG1 - with upgraded half shafts, rear end and a shift kit.
I are impressed with your knowledge, GhostZ...

Nice!
There are two things I try to know well in this world. Old Nissans, and Old Mopar.
When my father was younger, he owned a 1970 Dodge Challenger (new) with an original 440. He swapped it out for a 413 Max Wedge from a imperial limo, and then bored it out to about 452ci or so. Solid roller cam and a rotating assembly out of an old NASCAR motor, split wedge intake (non-hemi heads) with twin Carter 4bbl carburetors on a two-stage throttle (4 barrels open until 3/4 throttle, then 8 barrels after that). He had it hooked up to a nickle-cut ex-NASCAR Borg Warner T-10 4-speed.
It was built to about ~70s 426 spec on the top end giving it a healthy 9000RPM redline (valve float was higher than 10500 RPM or something stupid like that. That's what happens when you build a hemi for RPM, not torque). That's a 650-700HP engine on gas, but he ran it on nitromethane as a street car (got single-digit MPG when you laid into it). He had it crank dyno'd at 850HP.
Unfortunately, it got hit by a drunk driver and burned down to the ground when the gas tank burst.
His stories, growing up, gave me a massive appreciation for old muscle cars, particularly 70s Mopar. Owning a new challenger with a hemi swap? That's living the dream, in my mind.

I'll go however you want. She just got out of a full maintenance overhaul, so she's ready to beat something.
I've never had a go at a Challenger before. Took a mustang and punted it all the way back home. Twice.

I'm in Northern NJ. The unfortunate part is that the roads are too damn cold to be playing with this thing. I'll have it out probably during New Years only because my Magnum RT is still in the middle of a motor swap (dropped valve seat, just getting a shiny new 5.7L) and the Neon was wrecked in the beginning of the month.
Not going to lie, I dream of putting a 426 into the Magnum.

Remember the Ferris Bueller line: if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up?
I am in-transit back to the east coast (NY/CT), so my 7+L of American Muscle will be on the highway in the relatively near future.
Stay in touch and I will prove why you need a 426...

You should join us (a somewhat large group of Oppos) in the Spring to Caffeine & Carburetors if you're around for it. It's usually April through November, once a month (first or second weekend normally).
My biggest reserve about dropping a 426 into the Magnum is preventing chassis flex. The SL has a really monstrous 6L V12 which is super torque happy all through the revs, but being a convertible, it's a very well reinforced and fairly stiff car. The Magnum, in comparison, is tail happy, much like a little puppy on hardwood floor. For the time being, the 5.7 is a necessity as well. That whole MDS feature makes it possible for me to afford right now.

I average 15-18MPG depending on driving mix.
When I keep my foot in it, I hit single digits.
Chassis flex is an issue. I can see ripples in the sheet metal in the quarter panels and roof rails.
But, come on, that just a selling point: "Dude, it can bend its own chassis. Think about that!"

That's pretty funny, I'm not convinced it's the optional feature I want in my car. My SL manages 18MPG average, and the Magnum has been a pretty solid 20ish. I'm hoping the fresh motor gives me a little bit more than that though. The old motor had 147,572 miles on it and was doing 20mpg average, with about 16 around town and 26ish highway. Not a bad mix honestly for the size, weight and power that it does have. The dropped valve seat destroyed the cylinder wall, but the motor could be bored out and rebuild, I'd just rather put that money into something other than a 5.7L. I'm going to look to sell the old motor to offset the cost of the work, and start the piggy bang for the 426. The Magnum is a long term car for me, not looking to sell it any time soon. The SL is long term until R129 values go back up. The car has so much going for it, I'll keep it as long as I can afford it, and then I'll take it off the road, get a second job, and put it back on the road as soon as I can afford it again.
I'd rather end up getting a 3rd car as a tiny little POS beater than give up either of these. I'm sure the 426 makes you consider the same thing.
I just need to double check the fluids in the SL, make sure they're where they were when I parked it. She's just too pretty a car to let anything bad happen to her.

Heck, 10 seconds lets me start my car, check oil pressure, voltage, and tire pressure, and then shut off the stereo when bluetooth defaults, automatically connects, and then starts a shuffle-all playlist off my phone without my cooperation or agreement.
TL;DR: My bluetooth works too well.

You, sir, are the reason I mod my car! Having embarrassed a SRT8 Challenger in a 60- 140, I can appreciate the torque in a built 426. I've about reached the limit for my little 267ci at 510/540 RWHP/TQ, but its fun to see the look on the hot rodders' faces when I fire it up ;).
